We got our YOSUDA bike a couple of weeks ago and have been riding it daily since then. YOSUDA provided the bike for this review but as always we will tell you everything about the bike and how it’s working out for us. It is an upright bike like most bikes in general. It is not a sit down recumbent bike. It has a belt drive which drives a 35 flywheel to give it a smooth feeling ride. Let’s get to the details.

Price

The YESUDA YB001 currently costs $283 on their website. You can use our discount code GHG05 to get it for $269. This makes it a great value indoor exercise bike and competitive with other low cost indoor exercise bikes like the Cyclace Exercise Bike. It is much cheaper than a Proform Studio Bike Pro or Peloton.

Assembly

It took me about 20 minutes to assemble the bike. It took me about an hour to clean up the mess left from the giant cardboard box and beaded foam that it was shipped in.

Assembly is straightforward and you don’t need any tools outside of what is provided. You bolt the 2 feet on. Then you put on the pedals. Put in the seat post and attach the seat. Put on the handlebars and display.

There are a couple of extra bolts, nuts, and washers which is nice. It’s way better having extras than missing a fastener and then trying to locate a replacement. An extra brake pad for setting the bike resistance is also included.

A note about the pedals. Bicycle pedals are not threaded the same on the left and right pedal. The left pedal is backwards threaded. I found that both pedals took a lot of effort to wrench in. There is some loctite and paint that has to be cut by the threads while they are being driven in. After bolting the pedal in you add a locknut.

I don’t see how the pedals are going to come loose without the locknut. I have read enough reviews of this bike where people claim it happened. Don’t leave the locknut off.

Construction

The YOSUDA spin bike has a solid build. The cycle bike is made with a steel frame. It’s quite heavy at 67 lbs. The flywheel weighs 35 lbs which is a big part of it. There isn’t an obvious weak point when looking at it. The only area which I think could be improved is the handlebar post. It wobbles a bit more than I would like when it’s extended all the way.

Fixed Gear Bike

This indoor cycle is a fixie. The pedals operate a beltdrive which spins the flywheel. There is no freewheel or coasting the pedals while riding it. This is normal for spin bikes and most indoor exercise bikes including a Peloton bike. In years past I have used bike trainers with my mountain bikes to ride indoors. The fixed gear nature of this takes a little getting used to if you aren’t used to riding stationary bikes. This discussion has some information about fixed gear spin bikes vs other exercise bikes.

Adjustable resistance level

The YOSUDA exercise bike has a resistance knob that tightens a felt pad down into the flywheel. The tighter you turn the knob, the more resistance you get. You can quickly stop the bike if you need to by pushing down on the nob. Resistance on this bike is manual. There are no programs and the LCD display has no connection to the resistance adjustment.

4 way adjustable seat

The seat can adjust fore/aft and height. The included seat has thick padding and a center channel groove. The groove is to prevent numbness while riding the bike.

Adjustable handlebar

The handlebar shape is road/triatholon shaped bar. You can adjust the height of the handlebar to get the riding position you want.

Adjustable cage pedals

The bike comes with metal cage pedals with toe straps. This is a fixed gear bike. Do not remove the toe straps. This is so that you don’t slip your foot off the pedal with a lot of momentum in the flywheel. That will send the pedals flying into your shins and it will hurt. Do not be tempted to remove the straps and ride it with flat pedals.

LCD Display

There is a simple and easy to use LCD monitor. It has basic information such as time, speed, distance, and calories. It has one button to change the display. You reset it by holding the button for 3 seconds.

This bike does not have any exercise routines or programs on it. The resistance adjustment is purely manual.

Tablet holder

There is a plastic shelf attached to the handlebars that can hold your phone or tablet. It snaps into place during assembly. It has a few different grips and channels in it for holding different objects. It works pretty well.

Easy to move

The bike has wheels on it’s front support. To move it you grab the handlebars and tip the bike forward. You can then guide it around with the handlebars. Set it back down when you get it in position. I an easily roll it from where we store it out to where we use it. It’s easy enough I haven’t considered permanently leaving it out.

Riding the bike

I have been riding the bike for at least a 20 minute session each day. I am an over 200 lb rider. I’m not at the 265 lb weight capacity but I’m not a ton below it. So far the bike is performing good. I will add more to this section if any issues come up with the bike after continued use. So far it’s working well for us.

The seat and handlebar have similar wobble amounts to them. I don’t notice the seat post wobble while riding. I do notice the handlebar wobble back and forth a little bit.

The pedals work well. They haven’t loosened at all after several hours of riding. I don’t expect them to with a locknut on the end on top of how tight they were to screw in. The pedal straps are generic bike straps that can be adjusted to fit your shoes. They work at keeping the pedal attached to your feet. I haven’t had any pedal to shin incidents.

The pedals work fine with regular runnings shoes or exercise shoes. There is no need to get cycling shoes to ride this bike. I have a pair for mountain biking but don’t put them on for riding this.

Riding Bike

Comfort

This spin bike has a more athletic leaned forward riding position to it. There is enough adjustment in the bike that I can get a natural feeling position. The handlebars have a triathlon shape to them which I am getting used to. I mountain bike with a straight handlebar. I never ride road bikes. After spending time on the bike I am getting used to the different hand positions.

The padded seat has enough cushion without going too overboard. It’s good for a 20-30 minute indoor session. It’s got way more padding than I would want for a 3 hour trail ride. The seat has standard mounting rails on it. You could swap it out for your favorite preferred bike seat.

Noise level

The belt drive and flywheel are quiet. I can easily watch TV or listen to the radio over top of the bike. It’s much more quiet than my trainer/mountain bike combinatioin.

Resistance

There is plenty of range for pedal resistance. I can feel the difference with about a 1/4 turn of the knob. I can screw it in far enough that I’m not able to pedal the bike. The flywheel is heavy enough to give the bike a good feel with the resistance all the way loose. It doesn’t feel like your spinning a freewheeling crank on a bike with a broken chain. It feels like similar resistance to a smooth flat road.
